Portland, Maine area:

Italian Heritage Center near the Portland jetport is ideal for a semi-formal wedding. Though the location of the building is a bit odd...the inside is absolutely beautiful and I also didn't have to worry about a caterer since they serve their own food.

There are plenty of hotels in the general area to accommodate guests from out of state.

I recently attended a wedding there in the “Columbus room” and the room was very large. I believe there was about 150-175 guests I would say and there was plenty of room especially for the dancing!

I will be having my own wedding and reception there as well in the “Da Vinci room”. It is the smaller of the two rooms and perfect for our small wedding.

Wyndham Portland Airport Hotel , as the name implies, is a local hotel located right across the street from The Maine Mall. Hotels are usually more fitting for semi-formal to formal wedding affairs.

Hotels provide a great opportunity for the convenience of lodging, a wedding venue and reception venue all in one location!

Standish, Maine area:

For a more country style wedding, there is of course The Roost! This is a post and beam style building with a very LARGE dance floor...so if you plan on partying it up with a bunch of friends and family, this could be your spot.

The Roost is definitely fitting for an informal wedding. You could get away with a semi-formal affair if you had an evening wedding since the lighting could add a feeling of rustic elegance to the room.

Southern Maine area:

Spring Hill in South Berwick is perfect for any type of ceremony...from informal to very formal. This place also offers the convenience of serving their own food so you don't need to worry about a caterer. The setting is absolutely beautiful!

Tips:

• Make sure the wedding reception locations you are looking at will work for the estimated number of guests.
• If you are looking for a venue where you can bring your own food, make sure to ask if it is allowed.
• Ask about any special rules about decorations...some reception halls will not allow you to bring in your own decorations or have limitations on what you can do.

Tidbit: A reception’s success should be measured by the quality of the people that show up and not the quantity that did or didn't.
